MM2 chroma guide: what chromas are and why the premium varies

By MM2 Trade Hub TeamPublished Updated 8 min read

Everyone knows a chroma is worth more than the plain godly. What surprises people is how much that "more" moves around. On the MM2Values.com list right now the premium runs from about +9% over the base all the way to 43x, with the median chroma at roughly 8.5x. This guide explains what a chroma is, where that premium comes from, and gives you the full live table so you never have to guess.

What a chroma actually is

A chroma is a godly with a shifting, rainbow-ish finish that cycles through colours as you hold it. Underneath it is the same knife or gun as the base version: same model, same animations, nothing different in a round. The whole difference is the paint job and the odds.

Chromas usually come from the same box or event as their base godly, at a far lower drop rate. Some were also crafted or salvaged during events. That lower rate is the only reason a chroma is worth more, and it is also why the premium is so uneven: the rate was never the same from one item to the next.

The odds, now that the game publishes them

For years the chroma rate was folklore. That ended with the 1 September 2026 patch: every Mystery Box in MM2 now has an "Item Chances" button that shows the exact odds, the first official numbers the game has ever published (from the patch notes, as reported by bloxultra.com). Press it before you spend anything.

What the button shows lines up with what traders had guessed. A chroma from a regular Mystery Box sits around 0.004 percent, one pull in roughly twenty-five thousand. Event boxes are kinder to the godly and just as stingy with its chroma: the usual shape is 0.2 percent for the godly and 0.004 percent for the chroma. The Halloween 2026 box is the current example, with Embersickle at 0.2 percent, Chroma Embersickle at 0.004 percent and Embergun at 4 percent, per the event shop's own odds screen.

Two chromas do not come from a box at all. Chroma Seer is the one crafted chroma, made from ten godly metals and ten godly shards, which is why its supply tracks how many people bother to grind rather than how many boxes get opened. And gifting during events hands out a chroma about one time in fifty. What you cannot do with any chroma is salvage it: the game refuses, so a chroma never turns back into materials.

Chroma, chromatic, and the first chroma ancient

People mix up two words constantly. A chroma is the colour-cycling version of a godly, the subject of this guide. Chromaticis a different, older item name, a specific weapon from years back, not a finish. If somebody offers you "a chromatic" and means the shiny version of something, ask which it is before a value gets quoted, because the two are nowhere near each other on the list.

Halloween 2026 added a third thing to keep straight. Emberbow, the tier 30 battle pass reward, is billed as the first chroma ancient: open the reward and there is a small chance it comes out as Chroma Emberbow. Until now every chroma on this page was a chroma of a godly, so that pair will not behave like the ones in the tables below for a while. Its supply is still being set by people finishing the pass.

Where the premium comes from

Three things set the gap between a chroma and its base, in our experience:

The result is that "a chroma is about 2x" is a myth. It is closer to a coin toss which side of 3x you land on, and the tails are enormous in both directions.

Every chroma against its base (live)

52 pairs from the value list, sorted by premium. Recomputed whenever the feed changes, so this is what the market says today. Where the feed lists a chroma under two tiers we show it once.

Collector chromas: 10x and up (24)

The chroma is a different asset class from the base. These trade in stacks of other godlies, and the base is basically irrelevant to the price.

Standard premium: 2x to 10x (20)

What most people picture when they say "chroma". Worth meaningfully more, not absurdly more.

Barely a premium: under 2x (8)

The chroma was never really rare. Treat these as the base godly with a small bonus, and do not let anyone tell you the shiny one is worth double.

FAQ

Is a chroma always worth more than the base godly?

On the MM2Values.com list, yes, every chroma is worth at least a little more than its base. But "a little" is the key word for 8 of the 52 pairs, where the premium is under 2x. Always check the specific pair rather than assuming a big gap.

How rare are chromas in MM2?

Much rarer than the base godly from the same box or event, but the exact odds were never the same across items, which is why the premium varies so much. A chroma that was almost as common as its base ends up priced almost the same.

Is it a fair trade to give a chroma for its base plus adds?

Only if the adds cover the whole premium. For a 2.8x chroma that means the adds have to be worth nearly twice the base. Put the exact items in the trade checker; guessing is how people lose chromas.

What is the chance of getting a chroma?

Since the September 2026 patch the game tells you itself: every Mystery Box has an Item Chances button. Regular boxes put the chroma around 0.004 percent, and event boxes usually put the godly at 0.2 percent and its chroma at 0.004 percent. Gifting a chroma during an event is about one in fifty, and Chroma Seer is crafted rather than pulled.

What is the difference between a chroma and a chromatic?

A chroma is the colour-shifting version of a godly. Chromatic is the name of an older, separate item. They are not the same thing and they are not priced anywhere near each other, so when someone says chromatic, make them say which item they mean before you agree a value.

Why do two chromas of similar godlies have such different values?

Supply. Two godlies can be worth about the same while one chroma was unboxed thousands of times and the other only a few hundred. The value of the base tells you nothing about how many chromas exist.
